The Story

Moody, glossy, and effortlessly cool, Scindapsus treubii ‘Dark Form’ is a striking aroid with deep green, almost black leaves that have a subtle satin sheen. Its clean, oval leaf shape and rich colouring make it perfect for more minimal, modern interiors, while still bringing that lush, jungle feel. Slower growing than some trailing plants, but well worth the wait for its bold, sculptural look.

Scientific Name
Scindapsus treubii ‘Dark Form’ (named after Melchior Treub, a Dutch botanist)

Synonyms
Sometimes confused with Scindapsus treubii ‘Moonlight’, though this is a distinct, darker form

Common Name
Dark Form Scindapsus, Dark Treubii

Origin
Derived from Scindapsus treubii, native to tropical regions of Southeast Asia

Light
Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate moderate light conditions. Lower light may slow growth and deepen the already dark foliage. Avoid harsh direct sun

Water
Allow the top half of the soil to dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly, then let excess drain away. Overwatering is the most common issue

Humidity
Enjoys moderate to high humidity but adapts well to average household conditions

Soil
Use a well-draining, chunky aroid mix with bark and perlite to ensure good airflow around the roots

Food
Feed every 2–4 weeks during the growing season with a diluted balanced fertiliser. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter

Temperature
Prefers temperatures between 18–28°C. Avoid temperatures below 15°C and keep away from cold drafts

Pet-safe
Toxic if ingested, so keep out of reach of pets and children

Sprouts Top Tips
This one prefers to climb rather than trail. Giving it a moss pole or support will encourage larger leaves and a more upright, structured growth habit.
